In 2009 Blackedge Brewery was founded born of Shaun and Wayne’s passion for good beer. 15 years on we have become a well-known award-winning microbrewery at the heart of the small independent brewing community in the North West.

Our dedication to excellence in brewing shines through in the beers we produce. Using only the finest natural ingredients, we use an expert blend of crushed malts, hops & yeasts to suit a variety of beer styles from light to dark, malty to hoppy, session beer to DIPA. The brewing methods we use are traditional but the beers we produce are hop-forward modern beers in cask, keg & bottle.

Inspired not only by the history of British beer making, we have also been influenced by our visits to the US Pacific West Coast where the standard of brewing is remarkable. We like to think we have found a good balance between traditional British beer and modern craft. Ultimately, we produce beers that we like to drink; hop forward pales & dark beers packed full of body and flavour.

As an independent brewer we produce a great range of core ales and craft beers, regularly introducing new beers and rotating some of our beer seasonally. We are members of The Society Of Independent Brewers and proudly display the INDIE BEER logo. We have been fortunate enough to win many awards at the SIBA beer competitions over the years with a variety of our cask and keg achieving gold, silver & bronze awards.

We don't do gimmicks, TV's, pool tables or gaming machines - just some light low background music to help create a relaxed atmosphere.

Our Tap Rooms serve up 7 of our hand pulled ales to perfection plus a large range of our own craft keg beers. We also stock the exceptional Paulaner Helles & Steigl Alpine Lager plus 7 rotational real ciders. In addition to the beer & cider you will find superb range of quality wines, spirits, soft drinks & snacks. We have the full range of locally produced artisan spirits from our mates over at Brindle Distillery plus locally produced Greeley's Butchers pork pies & Fiddler's Lancashire crisps.
The Brewery Bar opened in February 2015 & is based in Horwich directly above the Brewery. We tried to keep the building to its original heritage as a former engineering works so the bar has a modern industrial decor & a cool vibe, perfect for a relaxing afternoon or evening's socializing. We are dog friendly & child friendly and have a large outdoor covered area for relaxing in the sun outside the brewery.

The Brewery Tap opened in September 2019 as our second Tap Room and is on Market Street in Westhoughton. ​A former carpet shop & derelict first floor flat, we gutted this place & gave it a fresh modern feel with some traditional touches perfect for all ages. A bustling atmosphere late afternoons & early evenings with occasional live music for some extra weekend enjoyment. The Brewery Tap also has an upstairs seating area available for booking for functions.

We have a small bar team headed up by Kyle all well trained in the art of cellarmanship who always give a warm welcome.
